Author Spotlight: Meet the Young Minds Behind "Purge Star Sagas"

Hello, and welcome back to Mind the Typos! Today, I have the pleasure of sharing a fascinating interview with two young and talented creators who are making waves. Kayron Huff and Thierno Diallo, the dynamic duo behind the "Purge Star Sagas," discuss their creative journey, inspirations, and what sets their work apart. Let's dive in and get to know the minds behind this captivating series.

1. Could you please introduce yourself and tell us about your book?

My name’s Kayron Huff. Along with my co-writer, Thierno Diallo, we both make up the 18/19-year-old duo that writes Purger Star Sagas. We both went to school together, eventually teaming up to make a manga that would encompass action, sci-fi, and psychology to shift the minds of those willing to read. The story revolves around Mizerma, an ex-assassin turned soldier, who eventually discovers himself to be the one meant to defeat a mad god from billions of years ago. The god in question’s story can be read in our prologue, Purge Star Sagas Vol.0.

2. What inspired you to write your book, and can you tell us about it?

The primary inspiration for Purge Star Sagas is rather strange. It started with a strange dream I had one night that formulated into a story I never quite finished in middle school. However, as time passed, I eventually got the idea to make a story about a guy who died and was revived as death’s apprentice to fight a being that had been sealed, destined to one day get free. As time went on and tweaks were made, that story completely changed and shifted into what we now know as Purge Star Sagas.

3. What themes or messages do you hope readers will take away from your book?

The theme can be summed up in two words: “Full circle”...

...One who runs from a path of destiny may very well manifest the fate they sought to avoid.

4. Are there any particular authors or books that influenced your writing style or inspired you?

Atsushi Ohkubo (Soul Eater)

Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball Z)

Kazue Kuto (Blue Exorcist)

Avatar: The Last Airbender (cartoon series)

Warframe (video game)

5. In what ways do you think your book stands out from others in its genre, and what do you hope sets it apart for readers?

Purge Star Sagas looks to combine the action elements of shounen with elements of realism, psychology, and the “human condition” found in more complex tales to create scenarios, characters, and world elements that hold vast realism within their fantastical elements. We don’t want to create cookie-cutter narratives that can pass on the excuse of “ohhh that’s just how anime is.” No! This is a piece of literature, and we want to treat it to its fullest degree as such.

6. Can you discuss any research or preparation you undertook while writing your book, particularly if it involved exploring new topics or settings?

Honestly, we’re always researching. All media is a form of inspiration. Currently, I can say Castlevania (the Netflix series), among a host of Amazon and CW shows, plays a large role in our ability to create more “human” dialogue. Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen are big influences on combat, along with the Batman Arkham series. As for the ability to create new worlds, we really looked into DC.

7. Can you provide an excerpt of a specific scenes or passages in your book that hold particular significance?

“They may very well discover their destiny...

...as they seek to avoid it.”

— (Purge Star Sagas Vol. 0)

8. Can you provide insight into your future writing plans or projects? Are there any upcoming releases or ideas you're excited to explore?

At the moment, we’re talking to some bookstores about getting our books on their shelves. We also have a local Barnes & Noble that is considering stocking the volume. In addition to that, we’re about to ship the book out to some creators’ P.O. boxes, and we’re also advertising the book in general. We have plans for merchandise on the way and are preparing to release the next chapter of the main series.

9. Lastly, could you provide your contact information or social media handles for readers who would like to connect with you?
